TOOLS Digital Services manages new floating solar power plant in São Paulo

When it comes to sustainability, TOOLS Digital Services does not mess around: The company is leading the management of clean energy from Brazil’s largest floating solar power plant, located at Billings Dam in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area. The plant, the result of a joint venture between Comerc Energia and KWP Energia, in partnership with Empresa Metropolitana de Águas e Energia (EMAE), has a total capacity of 112 MWp, enough to supply approximately 64,000 homes.

The project is a pioneer on several fronts: In addition to occupying less than 1% of the dam’s surface, the floating solar power plant also preserves natural resources and minimizes water evaporation by up to 70%, all while using areas with no social or economic impact. The project model is essential for highly populated areas, such as Greater São Paulo, where space for conventional installations is very limited.

Santander Brazil, through TOOLS Digital Services, is one of the main lessors of the new plant, using 4 megawatt-hours (MWh) to supply 160 stores connected to the low-voltage distributed generation grid (DG), which completes the 100% green coverage of its operations in the metropolitan area. TOOLS is responsible for managing the supply, including controlling energy credits and validating services, under an 18-year contract.
